About PA Masters
PA Masters Racing Team was formed in 2010 and began with a small, core group of local cyclists in the Philadelphia region. The founding members, Joe Piscitello and Brian Walton created this team with the support of many individuals along with corporate support from Piscitello Law. In February 2016, PA Masters and Team Alliance Environmental joined forces to form the current elite Masters team. Team Alliance was an accomplished track team led by Bob Casciato and Matt Diefenbach. PA Masters has grown to a roster of over 30 men and women cyclists who compete in Road, Cross and Track.
As a team, PA Masters won 1st place, Small Teams at the PA BAR awards in 2011, 2013 and 2014. The Team took 2nd place, Master’s Team at the PA BAR awards in 2012, 2014 and 2015. PA Masters won 3rd place, Large Teams at the PA BAR awards in 2015.
Not only does PA Masters function as a strong team, but individually, the team includes cyclists who hold multiple titles in Worlds, National and State championships across disciplines. We will highlight just a few of our cyclists here: Brian Walton won a silver medal at the 1996 Olympics and is a three-time Olympian. His cycling career spanned 17 years and is the foundation of Walton Endurance, a professional coaching business. Dana Walton won seven Master’s World Championship in Track Cycling; Matt Diefenbach won Masters World Championship in Track Cycling (Portugal 2010); David Iglewicz competed in Worlds Track Cycling (LA, 2017) and David Gulick competed in Masters Worlds Track Cycling (Portugal, 2010).
While members of PA Masters are not in the saddle and on the road/track/field… they are busy with their day jobs. Professional careers are wide ranging to include medicine, law, dentistry, pharmaceuticals, aviation, sales, technology, investments and the never-ending job of parenting! The team even has a resident cycling cartoonist/artist (Ken Murphy). PA Masters wants to give a special shout out to our very own David Mitchell whom has served as President of the Pennsylvania Cycling Association (PCA) for many years. Dave has done an outstanding job in this volunteer role promoting this sport throughout the state. He meticulously tracks race results of teams and individuals and hosts an annual event to recognize leadership within the community.
Over the years, the members of PA Masters have formed a strong bond of friendship centered around their shared passion of cycling. The team (and their awesome mates) look forward to dinner events a few times a year – giving everyone the chance to catch up on life on and off the bike. We even have a budding group of next generation cyclists coming up in the ranks!
Cheers to a great cycling season for 2018!
