I became interested in cycling watching Alexi Grewal win the 1984 Olympic Road Race. I rode pretty consistently through the years from then on but never with a group and I was never aware that racing was an option. It was not until I bought my first real road bike in 2007 at Cadence that I started riding with a group. That is where I met Joey and most of the guys and gals I am close to in cycling. I started racing in 2009 and really enjoyed doing a variety of road races and criteriums. One of my best cycling memories was going with Joey to do Battenkill in 2012. Definitely an epic cycling experience!
In 2013 I had a cycling accident going to a ride that required a hip replacement. Since then, I have largely put the brakes on mass start races moving first to time trials and then to duathlons. I have had good success with duathlons and that is my main focus right now. Cycling is what is helping me be competitive as I just started running a couple of years ago.
I still consider myself a cyclist first and love being a member of PA Masters!
My wife Joanne and I have two children, Sean and Kaitlin and three grandchildren- Juliette, Alyssa and JT.
